'Shanabans' Website Tracks NHL Players Suspended by League Disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan When Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski knocked Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck to the ground with an a late hit during a preseason game, fans figured he would be suspended. What they didn't know was that Wisniewski would be one of the growing number of players to be "Shanabanned."

A new website has invented a new word to describe the fates of players who have been disciplined by new NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan.

The website tracks which players have been suspended, which rule they were suspended for breaking and whether or not the players on the receiving end of the hits were injured. A helpful tally of the total games missed and salaries forfeited is also kept, and at last glance a little less than $750,000 had been lost due to 60 missed games.

Wisniewski leads the way with over $500,000 in forfeited salary, but the season hasn't begun yet. The list of "Shanabanned" players is sure to grow throughout the year.
