The rest of the country is missing out. While most subscribers to Sports Illustrated will receive their issues this week with either Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson or Alabama's college football team on the cover, a lucky few in New England and Canada will get to see Boston's own Tim Thomas as the Bruins prepare to defend their cup.

Thomas will be featured on the Oct. 10 issue of Sports Illustrated as the cover boy for the magazine's NHL preview issue. It is the Bruins' first cover since 1977, when Gerry Cheevers and Brad Park made the cover, according to SI.

Inside, SI writers pick the Bruins to win the Northeast Division and finish the season in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The magazine also picks Sidney Crosby's Penguins to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final.

The issue will hit newsstands on Wednesday and the cover is pictured below, courtesy of SI.com.
