Vitali Klitschko has become active in politics in recent years. But the WBC world heavyweight champion isn't ready to hang up the gloves to run for office just yet.

Klitschko said that he "is surprised" by a recent report that said he planned to retire after one or two more fights in order to run for the Ukrainian presidency.

"I'm totally surprised. I can say that next year I plan to have at least two fights. I feel as fit as ever and I promise to present my fans with some real highlights," Klitschko said in an e-mail to BoxingScene.com.

His statement comes in the wake of news that he announced his retirement on a television station in Ukraine.
