Darrelle Revis Reflects on Shutting Down Chad Ochocinco, Assesses His Struggles With PatriotsFOXBORO, Mass. —Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has seen wide receiver Chad Ochocinco’s disappearing act before. Of course, Revis was the guy who caused it.

The two had a pair of high-profile showdowns in 2009, and Revis came out on top each time. He held Ochocinco without a reception in the regular-season finale, when the Bengals’ most prominent players were pulled in the third quarter, during the Jets’ 37-0 victory. While the game was meaningless for the Bengals in terms of the standings, the Jets needed the win to get into the playoffs.

It also set up a rematch the following week in the wild-card round, when the Jets won, 24-14, and Revis held Ochocinco to two catches (on six targets) for 38 yards. Revis had played better receivers at that point in his career, but the playoff game was one of his most prominent performances after two weeks of trash talk between him and Ochocinco.

“[I] got him two weeks in a row,” Revis said Wednesday. “It was a good matchup between us. We came out with the victory on both of those wins.”

The 2009 regular-season finale was the only game between 2003-10 in which Ochocinco was held without a catch. Now, he’s riding a three-game streak without a reception for the first time in his career, and this is the first season of his career with three games in any order without a catch.

Revis wasn’t sure how to diagnose Ochocinco’s struggles.

“I don’t really know the inside or what’s going on up there with him in the offense,” Revis said. “It might be something where the terminology might be different from when he was in Cincinnati. You could see they’re trying to work him into the mix. I guess when he gets comfortable and the Patriots feel that he’s comfortable, then they’ll probably show him the ball a little more.”
