Trulon Henry admits he made a mistake when he was younger, when he committed an armed robbery in an attempt to keep his parents from losing their home in Washington, D.C.

After serving a five-year prison sentence and entering college late, Henry, 27, has turned his life around as a linebacker at Illinois.

Still, trouble found Henry on Sunday morning, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Henry was at home with his wife and young daughter when his teammates called him to say an off-campus party had turned rowdy and that one of his teammates had been beaten up, the Tribune reports. When Henry arrived and tried to pile his teammates into his car to take them home, a gunman reportedly opened fire.

Henry was reportedly shot above the right wrist, rupturing an artery and breaking bones.

"I was only there for three minutes," the senior said in an interview with the Tribune. "I was trying to get everyone in the car and [someone] started shooting. It was crazy."

No charges have been filed, but police are reportedly seeking the gunman.

The gunshot wound likely ends Henry's college career, as he is not expected to have recovered in time to play in the Illini's final two games.
