Jamie Carragher Nears Return to Action, Recovering From Calf InjuryJamie Carragher is close to making a return to action after suffering a calf injury last month. LiverpoolFC.tv reports the veteran defender hopes to marshall the defense against Chelsea but will not rush his return.

"I'm coming along fine," Carragher said. "I'm working with the physios this week and if things continue to go well the plan is to get back into full training at the start of next week.

"It was always going to be tight to be fit for the Swansea game last weekend and with a two-week break after that match there was no point doing anything silly. It's important to ensure I get it 100 percent right. Hopefully I'll be available for the Chelsea game but I'm not thinking about games at this stage."

Carragher suffered the calf injury on Oct. 26 during LFC's 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Stoke City. He was substituted at halftime of that game and has not appeared for the Reds since.

The Reds' stalwart has worked on his own to maintain his fitness, but is itching to join his teammates in regular practice sessions.

"My first target is just getting back on the training pitch with the lads and that should happen early next week," Carragher said.

Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have partnered in the center of the Liverpool defense since Carragher's injury. The team has held opponenents scoreless in the two games they have played together.
