Jerry Sandusky Still Viewed Positively by 3 Percent of Pennsylvanians Polled

Jerry Sandusky isn’t a very well-liked man as a result of the recent allegations of sexual abuse. And even though a recent poll reaffirms that notion, perhaps the more staggering revelation is that 3 percent of those polled still have a positive opinion of the former Penn State defensive coordinator.

A recent poll conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP) revealed that 88 percent of Pennsylvania residents polled have a negative opinion of Sandusky, with three percent of respondents stating that they have a positive opinion of him.

The 88 percent breaks the record for the least popular person PPP has ever polled about. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, seen unfavorably by 83 percent of voters in his state, was previously the most unpopular person.

PPP also sought the opinion of Pennsylvanians on former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno, who was fired in the wake of the Sandusky child sex allegations. The poll revealed that 51 percent of Pennsylvanians view Paterno positively, while 28 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.

The poll also showed, though, that 45 percent agree with the university’s decision to fire JoePa, while 38 percent disagree with the decision and 17 percent don’t have an opinion on the matter.

Penn State continues to try to keep its image intact, and according to PPP, 61 percent still have a favorable opinion of the school.
