FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots rookie offensive lineman Marcus Cannon was excited to take another step in his journey back to the football field.

Cannon, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma before the NFL draft, was promoted to the active roster Tuesday, which was the deadline for the Patriots to either activate him or end his season by placing him on injured reserve.

“I feel great,” Cannon said Wednesday. “It’s awesome.”

Cannon didn’t exactly say a whole lot. He mentioned a few times that he’s just been doing whatever he could to help the team, and he’ll line up at whatever position Bill Belichick tells him to play.

Cannon was a tackle at TCU, but Belichick wouldn’t rule out a transition to guard in the NFL. Cannon, naturally, wouldn’t bite when asked where he’s been practicing.

“I just enjoy anything he puts me at,” Cannon said. “I’m just glad to play football.”
