FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots safety Patrick Chung, linebacker Brandon Spikes, linebacker Dane Fletcher and offensive lineman Ryan Wendell were missing from Wednesday's practice.

Chung injured his foot in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Giants, but he returned to the field. Spikes injured his right knee during a third-quarter collision with cornerback Kyle Arrington. Fletcher hasn't practiced since Week 6 with a thumb injury. Wendell, who rotated at center with Dan Connolly on Sunday, missed practice due to a concussion.

It was the highest number of absentees for the Patriots since the bye week.

Wide receiver Wes Welker (rib), Arrington (foot), linebacker Gary Guyton (shoulder) also had new injuries appear on the practice report.

Offensive lineman Donald Thomas returned to practice after missing Friday's session to witness the birth of his baby boy.

The Patriots practiced in sweats and shells for the 23rd time in 30 regular-season practices, not including walkthroughs.
