Report: Bears Will Attempt to Claim Kyle Orton Off WaiversIn a bizarre turn of events, Kyle Orton could soon be returning to the team that once traded him away.

The Chicago Bears will attempt to claim Orton off waivers, according to the Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure.

Orton was waived by the Broncos on Tuesday, just weeks after losing his starting job to Tim Tebow. Orton hasn't played since the first half of Denver's Oct. 9 game against San Diego, and Tebow has since led the Broncos to a 4-1 mark.

Orton, of course, spent three seasons with the Bears from 2005-2008. He was then traded to Denver as part of the deal that landed Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler has remained the starter with the Bears, but he is now expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with a thumb injury, bumping Caleb Hanie into the starting role.

The Bears are hoping to have Cutler back in time for the playoffs, making the story that much more intriguing. If the Bears were to land Orton, they would likely be turning to him in the hopes that he could guide them to the playoffs before eventually being replaced by Cutler — again.

Even if the Bears do put in a waiver claim for the veteran quarterback, though, a lot would have to happen in order for him to wind up there. Waiver priority is decided by record, and the Bears are sitting at a very respectable 7-3.
