The Red Sox officially lost their closer on Monday when Jonathan Papelbon was introduced as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. On Tuesday, the Sox were linked to one of the multiple free-agent closers on the market.
Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Sox are one of the teams showing interest in closer Francisco Cordero, who pitched the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds.
According to the report, the Reds, Blue Jays, Marlins, Dodgers, Angels and Mets are all among the teams interested in the 36-year-old reliever.
Cordero is a three-time All-Star who is coming off of a 37-save season for the Reds. In his four seasons with the Reds, Cordero averaged 38 saves per season while posting a 1.27 WHIP and averaging 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
