Report: Theo Epstein Compensation Talks Between Red Sox, Cubs Extended One WeekMajor League Baseball won’t have to step in and end the compensation battle for Theo Epstein‘s services quite yet.

Multiple media reports indicate that the Red Sox and Cubs have been given more time to negotiate compensation for the former Boston general manager and current Chicago president of baseball operations.

Originally, Bud Selig had announced his intentions to step in and determine the compensation if the two sides couldn’t work out a deal by Tuesday, Nov. 1. However, due to what some are calling “all the other business teams have been doing,” the commissioner’s office has extended the deadline.

Reading between the lines, it appears that with the Dodgers announcing that Frank McCourt has agreed to sell the team, Selig is focusing his energy on that issue and isn’t as worried about which minor league prospect or two Boston ends up receiving from the Chicago Cubs.

Both teams certainly have their work cut out for them. Each will have to balance the negotiations for Epstein with its potential free-agent signings and its managerial search — quite the full plate.
