UFC fighter Chael Sonnen agreed to do an interview with Michael Landsberg for a TSN show called Off the Record, but little did either party know how literally off the record the interview would be.

Landsberg perhaps could have chosen his words more carefully when he welcomed Sonnen into the interview by introducing him as the fighter who “backed down” from Anderson Silva. Sonnen didn’t take too kindly to that phrase and a disastrous interview ensued.

“What is this, your first day on the job?” Sonnen quipped in the opening minute after Landsberg suggested Sonnen would not fight Silva. “Is this for public radio?”

As Landsberg continued to mix facts, Sonnen asked if they should redo the interview — and Landsberg agreed.

Take two didn’t go any better. After halting the taping and starting over from the beginning of the segment, Sonnen and Landsberg continued to disconnect on the Q and A.

“If this is your first day in MMA, I guess. Do you know what the Octagon is? Have you head of that before?” Sonnen questioned.

The awkward exchange continued.

“I must be missing something here,” Landsberg asked.

“You got that right,” Sonnen responded.

Check out the full interview, including Sonnen removing his microphone and walking away from the camera, in the video below.
