Wellington Silva Tweets His Way Out of Levante, Making Arsenal Return Likely

Wellington Silva’s Twitter use has landed him in hot water again. The 18-year-old midfielder took to the social network to complain about his lack of playing time at Spanish club Levante, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Brazilian attacker is “fed-up at not getting a chance in the Levante first team and tweeted his frustrations despite being asked to stop spending so much time on social networking sites,” the report reads.

The highly-rated Silva is owned by Arsenal, but was loaned to Levante because he could not qualify for a U.K. work permit. He could return to the Gunners in January, but would not be eligible to play for their first team.

Silva has only made two appearances for high-flying Levante. The perennial relegation contenders are in fourth place in La Liga after eleven games. Levante was a sensation in Spain after going unbeaten in its first nine games, including a 1-0 win over Real Madrid on Sept. 18. This was despite having the lowest-paid squad in the league.

Manager Juan Ignacio Martínez has relied on veteran players for much of the season and Silva’s public grievances could alienate him from his teammates and coaches.

“[Arsenal] would loan him out for the rest of the campaign as it is believed there is interest from France, Greece and Brazil,” the report adds.

Silva joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Fluminese for £3.4 million ($5.5 million) in January. Work-permit issues prompted the Gunners to immediately loan him to Levante.

He reportedly ruffled feathers there because he ate too much pizza and stayed up too late on social networking websites. His Spanish coach urged him to show more professionalism and the player agreed.
