Zach Hamill Developed Chemistry With Jordan Caron in Providence, Duo Delivers for Bruins Against Oilers

BOSTON — Before Zach Hamill made the first appearance of his third stint with the Bruins on Thursday, he sought the advice of an old friend.

In this case, "old" is relative. Hamill, at the grand age of 23, sidled up to Jordan Caron, 21, his teammate for the majority of last season in Providence.

"Obviously, he's been here a lot, so I was picking his brain a little and learning stuff from him about how things go," Hamill said of Caron. "It's just little things. We kind of fed off each other in Providence last year from day one, so we do know each other quite well and it definitely benefits me. Hopefully, it does for him, too."

Just 8 minutes, 55 seconds into Thursday's game against the Oilers, Hamill and Caron showed why the Bruins are confident the young duo can be just as successful in Boston. Caron's first goal of the season, assisted by Hamill, gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead en route to their 6-3 victory.

"It's about having the confidence to handle that puck, be patient and found Jordan in the slot," Hamill said. "Got some great chances, and that's all you can ask for."

Bruins coach Claude Julien shifted Hamill from center to the wing against the Oilers, resulting in Hamill being a plus-two on the evening.

Although Julien would not elaborate on his thinking behind the move, it gave Hamill an opportunity to provide Caron with the helper, which Caron called "fun."

"We played almost a full season together last year and we played together two weeks ago down there," Caron said. "We've got some chemistry together and we got a goal, so that's all that matters."

It did take a while to adjust to the change, Hamill admitted, but his familiarity with Caron made the shift seem less drastic.

"It's a different position, so it felt a little bit different," Hamill said, "but we were able to create some chances and that's all you can ask for."

That, and some good advice.
