Even in defeat, Tim Tebow still has a polarizing effect on the American public. In fact, the Broncos' 40-14 Christmas Eve loss to the Buffalo Bills has caused one of the most heated debates centered around the quarterback yet.

Stand-up comedian and political commentator Bill Maher, who also happens to be an atheist, sent out a Tebow tweet on Saturday that drew the ire of some of his followers, especially Christians.

Maher tweeted: "Wow, Jesus just F—– #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler 'Hey, Buffalo's killing them.'"

The backlash has been intense, with some now calling for Maher to be ousted from HBO or for a boycott of the network, on which he hosts Real Time with Bill Maher.

Fox Business' Follow the Money host Eric Bolling was among those upset by Maher's tweet, resulting in a response from him via the social network.

Bolling tweeted: "Bill Maher is disgusting vile trash. I can't even repeat what he just tweeted about Tebow..on Christmas Eve. #straighttohellBill"

Maher's words are pretty controversial, which shouldn't be too surprising given his history of controversy, but we'll see if HBO plans to lay the hammer down or this gets swept under the rug. Either way, we can at least chalk it up as another Tebow controversy.
