All of the pregame chatter leading up to Saturday’s clash between the Giants and the Jets made for an interesting week. But that was just the start of it.

Following the game, which ended in a 29-14 Giants victory, running back Brandon Jacobs and Rex Ryan exchanged pleasantries on the field. It was initially unclear what they said to each other, but Jacobs later shed some light on the exchange.

“I didn’t really say too much to him,” Jacobs said. “He told me shut the F up, wait till we win the Super Bowl. And I told him I’d punch him in the face.”

While their altercation never quite reached physical status, Jacobs continued to throw a few verbal jabs in Ryan’s direction during an interview with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio.

“They got a big-mouthed coach, a big mouth and a big-bellied coach that talks too much and now it’s finally time to shut up,” said Jacobs, who also called Ryan “a very disrespectful b—-.”

The postgame drama comes on the heels of an interesting week in which Ryan and the Jets took some shots at the G-Men, to which Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said, “talk is cheap.” In addition to comments from Ryan, Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes criticized the Giants’ secondary, and the Jets defense plastered photos of Eli Manning getting hit on its playbooks. The Jets even had a mural of the Giants’ Super Bowl trophies and logos on the wall in front of their locker room covered up by black curtains (the two teams, of course, share a stadium).

The G-Men clearly won the battle given the result on the scoreboard. But we may just be getting started when it comes to the war of words between these two teams.
