Lucas Leiva Vows to Return From ACL Injury as Stronger Player, Reach Career Goals With LiverpoolLucas Leiva vows to return from his ACL injury as a stronger player and continue to make his mark with Liverpool FC. The influential midfielder tweeted a defiantly upbeat message to supporters, despite facing at least six months out of action.

The 24-year-old engine of the Liverpool midfield was enjoying the best spell of his career when he went down clutching his left knee in the second half of Tuesday's Carling Cup win over Chelsea. He was ruled out for the reminder of the season after scans revealed an ACL injury that requires surgery.

He emerged from the shadows of the departed Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano last season and began to fufill the promises former manager Rafa Benitez made about his ability.

Lucas won the club's Player of the Year award in 2010-11 and was continuing his fine run of play this season. His impressive displays in 12 English Premier League games earned him worldwide acclaim.

The last 18 months have seen him become a regular at the international level for Brazil. When Mano Menezes became Brazil's manager, he instantly slotted Lucas into the starting 11 for the five-time world champions. He started all four games at last summer's Copa America.

Lucas should return to action in time for Liverpool's 2012 preseason preparations.
