LANDOVER, Md. — The Patriots were busy on the eve of Sunday's game against the Redskins.
New England re-signed defensive end Eric Moore, who had two sacks with the Patriots in the final month of the 2010 regular season and was released in September after training camp. Moore reported to Gillette Stadium late Friday and made the trip to Washington with the team, so there's a possibility he could play against the Redskins, even with just a walkthrough under his belt.
Moore was signed because the Patriots placed defensive end/outside linebacker Jermaine Cunningham on injured reserve after he suffered a hamstring injury during Friday's practice. Cunningham, a second-round pick in 2010, had a disappointing season and fell to the bottom of the depth chart before the injury.
The Patriots also juggled some defensive backs. Cornerback Sterling Moore, who made his first career start at safety against the Jets, was released. Moore got turned around badly during Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon's 33-yard touchdown while playing cornerback in the fourth quarter.
And finally, the Patriots promoted cornerback Malcolm Williams from the practice squad. Williams was the team's seventh-round pick in April's draft, but he was released after training camp. He had two stints on the team's practice squad this season, and he'll most likely contribute on special teams.
