The Red Sox have found their next pitching coach.

On Thursday, the organization selected Bob McClure to fill its vacancy, ESPN's Jim Bowden reports.

Last season, McClure, 59, served as the Royals' pitching coach. He was let go after the team finished fourth in the AL Central and was hired by the Red Sox in November to work as a special assignment scout and minor league instructor.

He inherits a pitching staff that had a combined ERA of 4.20 in 2011, which ranked 22nd in Major League Baseball. McClure replaces former pitching coach Curt Young, who left the team in October to fill the same position for the Oakland Athletics.

Before getting into coaching, McClure pitched 19 years in the majors, 10 of those seasons with the Brewers. He spent the majority of his career as a reliever, finishing with a 68-57 record and 3.81 ERA.

McClure worked with Zack Greinke for four years in Kansas City, where Greinke won the 2009 Cy Young award under his tutelage.
