Texas governor Rick Perry made mention of the Denver Broncos quarterback on Thursday night at the Republican Presidential debate by comparing himself to the upstart Tebow who is now dominating headlines away from the sports arena as well.
"I'll talk about having, the type of part-time Congress that I think Americans are ready for," Perry started. "You know, there are a lot of people out there, I understand it. There are a lot of folks that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback. There are people that stood up and said well, he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms, or he doesn't — you know, he is not playing the game right.
"And you know, he won two national championships. And that looked pretty good. We're the national champions in job creation back in Texas. But am I ready for the next level? Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa Caucuses."
Oh, politics. You never cease to amaze us. It's unclear, however, whether or not Perry "Tebowed" after finishing his answer, either.
But if Perry really wanted to win the Iowa Caucuses, the Republican nomination and eventually the presidency, he should make a call to Tebow, and he should have done it yesterday. After all, all Tebow does is win. And if Tebow can turn the Denver Broncos into a playoff team, he could certainly do something about job creation, right? Just don't expect that to come until late in a second term, though. He usually saves his best for the fourth quarter.
