Getting a Sega Genesis for Christmas back in the day sounds pretty sweet. Heck, getting a Sega Genesis for Christmas now would be pretty awesome, too. Well, for rookie Mickell Gladness, it's got nothing on making the Miami Heat roster.

Gladness and fellow rookie Terrel Harris made the Heat's final 15-man roster prior to their season opener against the Dallas Mavericks. In order to make room for Gladness and Harris, the Heat released veteran guard Eddie House.

House had missed all of training camp and the preseason after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Nov. 1. Head coach Erik Spoelstra said cutting the veteran was an "extremely tough decision."

Gladness, a 6-foot-11 center out of Alabama A&M, was cut by the Heat during training camp last season. He had one bag packed to head back to one of the NBA Development League teams and another packed for Dallas, ESPN reports. When Gladness was informed that he'd be utilizing the latter, he couldn't hide his excitement.

"This is probably the best Christmas gift that I've ever gotten in my life," he said. "I probably would have said, when I was younger, when I got a Sega Genesis for Christmas. But this just tops that."

Well then. Merry Christmas, indeed.
