Wes Welker Enjoys Being a 'Goofball' With New Twitter AccountFOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has truly enjoyed blowing up the Twittersphere.

Since joining Twitter less than two weeks ago, Welker has amassed nearly 200,000 followers, and a good chunk of his tweets have been borderline hilarious, which has been a break from the oftentimes monotonous routine of going through an NFL season.

"I don't think people really see that side of you a lot of times where you do get to be kind of a goofball and stuff like that," Welker said Friday. "We'll do it in practice and the locker room but nobody really sees it. But yeah, it is an opportunity to be a clown sometimes and say some funny type of stuff and kind of enjoy it."

Welker has also averaged nearly 20 tweets per day, too, and he was asked if he might be addicted to his newfound Internet toy.

"No, I wouldn't say I'm addicted," Welker replied. "It's like when you get that video game the first time, and you stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning sitting there playing it, and then it kind of loses its zest there after a while. I wouldn't say it's losing its zest or anything, but I wouldn't say it's an addiction."

Welker joined after teammate Chad Ochocinco enlisted a friend to set up his account. Welker was reluctant at first, saying, "It's never really been my thing," but he has obviously changed his mind.

"It's been fun," Welker said. "It's been nice to reach out to the fans and do those different things like that. We've had some fun with it."
