It's been more than three months since Theo Epstein left the Red Sox to join the Cubs front office, but the two teams have yet to figure out what Boston will receive as compensation for his services.

Enter commissioner Bud Selig.

Selig, who has threatened to do so in the past, said that he will decide the compensation issue, according to The Associated Press.

Selig said Friday that he'd like to have it done as quickly as possible, and that he gave the clubs more latitude in the hope that they'd reach an agreement, but they couldn't. It will now be the commissioner's decision.

Epstein left his position as Boston's general manager with a year left on his contract to become Chicago's president of baseball operations. He subsequently inked a five-year, $18.5 million deal.
