Dan Carcillo's New Year's resolution was apparently not to avoid making illegal hits.

On Monday, Carcillo and Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tom Gilbert were chasing after a puck in the Oilers' defensive end when Carcillo caught Gilbert from behind and shoved him violently into the boards, injuring the defenseman on the play and drawing a penalty.

Carcillo was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct, but he may have been done for the game anyway. In the aftermath of the hit, Gilbert landed on Carcillo's leg and looked like he may have injured Carcillo's knee.

The karma of his own injury might not be enough for the Blackhawks winger, though. It's likely that Brendan Shanahan will sit down to have a talk with Carcillo after this one and a suspension will most likely be forthcoming.
