While the NHL continues to do all it can to eliminate egregious hits from behind, a high school hockey player in Minnesota recently suffered a devastating injury following an ugly hit.

Jack Jablonski, a sophomore at Benilde-St. Margaret in Minnesota, was paralyzed after being hit from behind in a recent game, according to MNHockeyHub.com

Jablonski suffered the injury during a game against Wayzata (Minn.) High School as he was checked into the end boards during the Holiday Hockey Classic Tournament.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare," his father, Mike Jablonski, told MnHockeyHub.com. "He dropped and didn't move. Right then and there I knew that my son, that there was something seriously wrong."

His father added that "it was just a very hard hit."

Leslie Jablonski "feels awful for the other boys" and explained that "at least one of whom knew Jack from youth leagues," according to the report.

According to the report, Jablonski still can't move his legs and has only slight movement in his hands and fingers.

A journal set up on CaringBridge.com for the 16-year-old reveals that the initial diagnosis is a bruised spinal cord, but the doctors still need more time to provide a full diagnosis. The sophomore has also been placed in a halo to provide stability.
