Matt Light ‘Fortunate’ to Spend Career With Patriots As He Prepares for Fifth Super Bowl

FOXBORO, Mass. — As the Patriots' roster has turned over in recent seasons, left tackle Matt Light has found himself as the third most tenured veteran in the locker room.

As such, he's just one of three players who remain from all three of the franchise's Super Bowl championship teams. Light, quarterback Tom Brady and running back Kevin Faulk will also play in their fifth Super Bowl, which will tie them with 14 other players, including former Pats linebacker Tedy Bruschi, for the second most appearances of all-time.

"You can't argue with the way things are done here," Light said. "I've been fortunate to be here for my career, and see guys come in from other organizations and how much they respect how we do things, and that's why they came here. I think that speaks for itself. As a player, if you're willing to come here because of the atmosphere, and the chance to win and do all those things, you're going to have continued success when you build a foundation like this. I've been privileged to be a part of it."

Light didn't feel like getting philosophical about that accomplishment, and he said the time for reflection will come down the road. For now, Light remained focused on working toward that fourth Super Bowl victory, which would also put him, Brady and Faulk in a tie for the second most in history.

"Give me about 30 years from now," Light said. "Hopefully I'll be able to reflect, and hopefully 2012 will be a big part of that. They always tell you that your next one is the best one, so I'm looking for the best one yet."
