A new era for Boston Red Sox managers begins with a trip to another Boston team’s championship game.

It may not be a Stanley Cup Final game, but rather the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants that Bobby Valentine is going to, thanks to an invite to be in a suite with Don Shula.

“It was hard not to root for the Giants growing up,” Valentine said to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. “But I told Bill [Belichick] that I’ll be there and I’ll be there rooting for him.”

Valentine picked the Patriots to win the big game even though he used to cheer on the Giants when he grew up in Stamford, Conn.
