Report: Liverpool Set to Bid £10 Million For Jermain Defoe, Striker Is Unsettled at TottenhamLiverpool has reportedly set its sights on Jermain Defoe to help its push for a top-four finish in the Premier League. The Mirror reports the Reds will offer Tottenham £10 million ($15.3 million) for the England international striker.

Kenny Dalglish is ready to test Tottenham with a £10million offer for unsettled Jermain Defoe,” the report says. “Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants a new striker himself and watched Marseille’s Loic Remy. If Redknapp adds a new face, that would push Defoe further down the pecking order and nearer the White Hart Lane exit.”

The veteran marksman is no longer an automatic starter for Tottenham. He has been used primarily as a substitute by high-flying Spurs this season. But he remains a potent goal scorer, bagging seven goals in 15 league games during the current campaign. Defoe started only seven of those 15 games.

The 29-year-old fits the profile of a player Liverpool reportedly is seeking. He has the ability to score goals at the Premier League level and also has international pedigree. He could move to Anfield and make an impact without needing the time to adjust to a new league.

Defoe is in contention for a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad. He will need to play regular league games and continue scoring goals if he is to advance his cause between January and June. The England international could see Liverpool as the ideal place to do just that.
