Report: Tottenham Wants £20 million for Liverpool Target Jermain DefoeLiverpool will have to pay over the odds for Jermaine Defoe. The Daily Mirror reports Defoe’s club, Tottenham Hotspur, will seek a transfer fee of around £20 million ($30.6 million) for the veteran striker.

“Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy will ask Liverpool to pay a staggering £20 million for Jermain Defoe,” the report says. “Defoe has emerged as a shock target for the Reds … However, insiders close to the deal reveal that hard-bargaining Levy is looking for twice the £10m fee being mentioned on Merseyside as Defoe is rated much higher in the current market.”

Liverpool could see Defoe as a solution to its goal-scoring problems. Despite his international pedigree — 15 goals in 46 games for England — and ability to score in the Premier League, LFC would likely balk at the reported fee.

Defoe is 29, and his market value will likely diminish over the length of his contract.
