Victor Martinez has torn his ACL and could miss the entire 2012 season recovering, according to multiple reports.

The Tigers designated hitter/catcher/first baseman was injured during offseason conditioning, according to SportsBusiness Journal's Eric Fisher, and may not play this season.

It would be quite a blow to the Tigers lineup, considering the protection Martinez gave slugger Miguel Cabrera. Martinez batted .330 and drove in 103 runs last season for the fourth-best offense in baseball last year.

The Tigers will now probably turn to free agency to try to fill the hole in their lineup with V-Mart, and could suddenly find themselves in the market for Prince Fielder, especially if the slugger decides to settle for a short-term deal.
