Stephen Strasburg Makes List of Top 50 Most Powerful People in Washington, D.C.

Barack Obama, eat your heart out. Washington, D.C. is Stephen Strasburg's town.

In all fairness, GQ opted not to include President Obama or Vice President Joe Biden in their list of the 50 Most Powerful People in Washington, D.C. However, the fact that Strasburg made the cut after pitching only 24 innings last season is still quite impressive.

"On the night that the young Nationals ace debuted in 2010 — fanning 14 batters in seven innings, among the all-time great first starts in baseball history — D.C.'s heart swelled for the real-deal phenom with unreal stuff," reads the caption next to Strasburg's photo.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound phenom lost most of his season to Tommy John surgery, but still managed to be the only athlete on the list. The 46 people who beat Strasburg are undoubtedly heaving a collective sigh of relief. Yet, one has to feel bad for lobbyist Jack Quinn, restaurateur James Alefantis and married bookstore owners Bradley Graham and Lissa Muscatine. They are the unfortunate few who were lucky enough to make the list, but could not manage to strike out Strasburg.

As for the pitcher, he will no doubt command tremendous attention in what Nationals fans hope will be his first complete season. He looked solid in his five September starts, and the months since can only help him in his recovery. If all goes well, Strasburg could even jump up the list next year.
