Albert Haynesworth’s NFL Career in Jeopardy After Being Released by Buccaneers

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth's brief tenure with Tampa Bay ended Wednesday, when the Buccaneers cut him after an eight-game stint.

The Bucs lost every game of Haynesworth's stop in Tampa. Meanwhile, the Patriots won 10 consecutive games after releasing Haynesworth in Week 10. Haynesworth, on the other hand, closed out his year with a personal 10-game losing streak.

Haynesworth, who will be 31 in June, had a $6.7 million base salary in 2012, which would be a steep price even if he played well last season. The dominance was still there, but the effort to display it on a consistent basis was not. His lack of accountability was his ultimate undoing with the Patriots, and it likely played a role with the Buccaneers' decision to release him, too.

Haynesworth was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 with the Titans before he signed a $100 million contract with the Redskins, who dealt him to the Patriots after two disastrous seasons.

When Haynesworth arrived in New England last summer, he vowed to make it work or the Patriots would be his final team. Haynesworth didn't have the freedom to make that choice when he was waived by the Patriots and claimed by the Buccaneers.

Now, his NFL future is up in the air. Whether it's his choice or not, he may have played his final down.
