FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Carl Crawford may have an apology coming his way.

Earlier this week, the outfielder admitted he “wasn’t happy” with Red Sox owner John Henry’s critical remarks about his signing. Back in October, Henry said he was “personally opposed” to inking Crawford to a seven-year, $142 million deal.

While speaking with reporters Saturday, Henry conveyed his plan to meet and apologize to Crawford.

“I should have never made those comments,” Henry said. “It was an off-the-cuff remark I shouldn’t have made. When I see him, I’m going to apologize to him for it.”

Henry clarified his remarks this past Monday, saying he opposed the deal because the Red Sox had a surplus of left-handed hitters. When asked to elaborate Saturday, the owner declined to rehash the discussion.

“I think I’ve already explained it,” he said. “People don’t seem to want to hear the explanation anyway.”

The comments stemmed from Crawford’s lackluster 2011 season, when he batted a career-low .255 and stole just 18 bases.
