Justin Morneau Says 'You Can Only Torture Yourself for So Long,' Won't 'Mess Around' If Injuries LingerJustin Morneau was at the top of his game midway through the 2010 season, but after a collision with Toronto Blue Jays second baseman John McDonald left him with a concussion, the Minnesota Twins star has had trouble returning to form.

With post-concussion symptoms limiting Morneau over the last season and a half, the former MVP spoke out about his future playing baseball, and how the injury will affect him going forward.

"Well, I don't think there will be a career if it's something I'm dealing with," Morneau said to reporters on Friday. "That's the reality of the whole thing. I'm obviously not going to continue to mess around with this if it continues to be a problem. There comes a point where you can only torture yourself for so long.

"It's something I love to do but you keep preparing and you keep being left out, that's something that nobody wants to go through. Obviously it's been a tough winter that way. I try not to think about that kind of stuff. Obviously it's crossed my mind and it's something I've had to think about, but when that stuff comes into my mind, I continue to look for something positive, and look how far I've come in the last week or in the last month and just hope it continues to go well.''

Before his injury, Morneau was one of the best players in the league. The Twins first baseman was voted to four consecutive All-Star Games from 2007 to 2010, and was named the AL MVP in 2006.

Morneau was having a career year in 2010 before his injury, hitting .345 with 18 home runs and 56 RBIs in only 81 games. He then missed the rest of the 2010 season, and only played in 69 games in 2011 before post-concussion symptoms forced him out of action for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year-old Morneau struggled at the plate when he did play last season, only batting .227 with four home runs and 30 RBIs.
