The Red Sox have reached a contract agreement with Alfredo Aceves to avoid arbitration.

The Boston Globe reported Sunday that Boston signed the right-hander to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million. Depending on his appearances and starts, Aceves can earn up to $100,000 in bonuses.

When Aceves submitted his salary request, he initially filed for $1.6 million and the Red Sox submitted $900,000.

In his first season with the Red Sox in 2011, Aceves emerged as a reliable option in the bullpen, posting a 10-2 record with a 2.61 ERA in 55 appearances. The 29-year-old will enter spring training as a starter and will compete for a spot in the rotation.

The settlement between Aceves and the Red Sox leaves designated hitter David Ortiz as the lone, unsigned arbitration-eligible player. Ortiz told MLB.com in the Dominican Republic that talks are ongoing.

"We are working on that right now," Ortiz said. "Hopefully, we will get to an agreement so we don't have to go in front of the judge.”
