Red Sox Elevate Rich Hill to 40-Man Roster, Place John Lackey and Bobby Jenks on 60-day DLFORT MYERS, Fla. –– The Red Sox elevated relief pitcher Rich Hill to the 40-man roster and placed pitchers John Lackey and Bobby Jenks on the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday.

After undergoing two back procedures in the offseason, Jenks will be sidelined "a while," according to manager Bobby Valentine. Jenks was placed on the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Chris Carpenter, who came to the Red Sox from the Cubs on Tuesday as compensation for former general manager Theo Epstein.

Lackey, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is likely to miss the entire 2012 season. With Hill's improvement –– also from Tommy John surgery –– the team opted to proceed forward with the left-hander.
