Report: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Patriots Have Had 'On and Off' Contract Talks With Free Agency LoomingBenJarvus Green-Ellis isn't the flashiest running back in the NFL, but he's one of the most reliable.

So with Green-Ellis set to become an unrestricted free agent once NFL's free-agency period begins on March 13, there's some question as to what kind of deal "The Law Firm" will command, and whether the Patriots will pay the money it will take to retain him.

Green-Ellis' agent, Joel Segal, said on PFT Live on Tuesday that there have been "on and off" contract talks with New England, where the running back has spent his first four NFL seasons.

Green-Ellis eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in 2010, totaling 1,008 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. This past season, he totaled 667 yards on the ground and 11 touchdowns.

The 26-year-old's biggest asset, however, is his ability to secure the football, as Green-Ellis has yet to fumble in his NFL career. That stat is even more staggering given his downhill, hard-nosed running style.

The Patriots have both Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen in the fold, though, both of whom the Pats spent high-round draft picks on last year. We'll soon see how much the Patriots value Green-Ellis' services, but given this latest report, it seems that they're at least open to the idea of him returning.
