Spike Lee has long been the instant purveyor of street cred by simply getting dressed.

The award-winning filmmaker and Hollywood’s biggest Knicks fan has favored the jerseys of New York fan favorites John Starks, Latrell Sprewell and, most recently, Landry Fields while sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden. Lee succumbed to Linsanity on Friday, donning second-year sensation Jeremy Lin‘s high school jersey.

This wasn’t some custom-made throwback, either. The No. 4 Palo Alto High School jersey was the genuine article, transported from California by a former Palo Alto player, according to The Associated Press.

If Lin was aware of Lee’s wardrobe change, he did not appear to acknowledge it after the Knicks’ 89-85 loss to the New Orleans. Knowing he received credit for the Knicks’ seven straight wins, Lin took the blame for Friday’s loss.

“Just a lackluster effort on my part coming out and [being] careless with the ball,” Lin told reporters. “So nine turnovers is obviously never going to get it done from your primary ballhandler. It’s on me in terms of taking care of the ball and the game in general.”

One-game losing streak aside, after watching the last eight games, Lee has obviously figured out that Lin Got Game.

All right, the jersey we understand. We get the glasses, too — nerdy glasses have always kind of been Spike’s thing.

But what’s with the lime-green jogging shirt? Did Spike just hop off the treadmill at New York Sports Clubs?
