FORT MYERS, Fla. –– The Red Sox are losing a Bogaerts brother. But it’s not highly-touted prospect Xander Bogaerts.
To complete the Theo Epstein compensation, the Red Sox announced that they had shipped Jair Bogaerts, Xander’s twin brother, Thursday to the Cubs as the player to be named later.
In two minor league seasons, Jair has played catcher and first base. Through 372 plate appearances, he’s belted four homers and 47 RBIs while batting .227, well short of the numbers Xander amassed as a shortstop.
The trade comes on the same day that pitcher Chris Carpenter –– the primary prospect that the Cubs traded to the Red Sox for Epstein –– underwent surgery on his elbow to remove a bone spur.
