The 19-year-old point guard announced on Monday his decision to leave the college ranks and join his father Doc Rivers in the NBA. Rivers expressed plenty of thanks and appreciation for his time with the Blue Devils, via his Twitter account.
Austin Rivers excelled in hall of fame coach Mike Krzyzewski's offense this season, averaging 15.4 points and 2.1 assists per game. Rivers numbers don't quite do his impact on the game justice, though, as he was a constant threat to score from anywhere on the floor.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Rivers was somewhat of an enigma in the Duke offense all season, serving in the role of point guard but emulating more a shooting guard's approach. He's also certainly a tough case to decipher for NBA scouts, given that his size suits him for more a point guard spot but his skill set qualify him for more a combo guard role in any offense.
It will be interesting to see how Rivers' pro team decides to use the unique playmaker or if the young stud is ever able to emulate his father's distinct passing ability.
