FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Carl Crawford is resigned to his short-term fate.

After Dr. Donald Sheridan — who performed the arthroscopic procedure on Crawford's left wrist in January — suggested the outfielder shut down activities for "five to seven days," Crawford intends to listen.

"I think it was me pushing myself more just to see," Crawford said, reflecting on re-aggravating the injury. "Stuff like this happens. You can't predict this kind of stuff, so it's just a setback and we'll do what we can do and move forward.

"I’m not disappointed at all, it's something I can't control. I'll wait 'til it gets ready. My body feels strong. My hand actually feels strong, I just need to wait 'til the soreness is gone."

Crawford expressed a desire to get as many at-bats as possible squeezed in during spring training. Once he returns to baseball activities, Crawford said he wouldn't compromise his health by overexerting himself, a routine that came about because of his hunger to play.

"I was focused on trying to get back, period," the outfielder said. "Like I set Opening Day is the goal, but I wanted to be ready for a spring training game, so I could get the reps and stuff."
