Matt Kemp Claims He Can Beat Magic Johnson in 1-on-1Magic Johnson's purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines, and fans got excited to see "Showtime" playing a part in trying to revitalize another team from L.A.

The Dodger players are excited, too. One of their players is so excited, he made a rather bold proclamation about his ability to school the five-time NBA champion at his own game.

Matt Kemp told reporters that he thinks he can take on Johnson 1-on-1 in a game of hoops, according to the L.A. Times.

Of course, he's referring to Johnson today, not the Johnson that was 12-time All-Star and three-time Most Valuable Player.

"Probably not back in the day," Kemp said. "I'd definitely take him one-on-one now. I don't think he's shooting hoops no more. He's wearing suits now. He's writing my checks."

It's not unreasonable to think that Kemp could take on the now 52-year-old Johnson. Kemp is only 27 and is in the prime of his athletic career. Johnson hasn't played basketball since 1996.

Kemp was also a stand-out basketball player for his high school varsity team, so he knows a thing or two about how to play the game.

However, it is reassuring to see Kemp knowing that if he faced off against Magic in his prime, that Johnson would most likely wipe him off of the court.

While Kemp's declaration was made in jest, the Dodgers center fielder has a great deal of respect for one of his new bosses.

"I think that's tight, man," Kemp said, "for Magic to be one of our owners. He knows what the Dodgers mean to L.A. Of course, Magic is real important to L.A. and the fans love him, so to get him to be a part of the Dodgers organization is a very good thing for us, and I think this is a pretty good day for the Dodgers."
