The MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference returns to Beantown this year, and an impressive list of panel members are in town.
The annual event, which is held at the Hynes Convention Center this year on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3, has become a premier event in the Boston area since its inception in 2007. Its goal is to provide a forum for industry professionals and students to discuss the increasing role of analytics in the sports industry.
The yearly conference is co-chaired by Daryl Morey and Jessica Gelman, who oversee MIT Sloan students in its planning and operation.
The event has grown to new heights over the past six years, attracting students and industry professionals from all over while gaining national attention. The event is open to anyone interested in sports, but has been sold out each year it's taken place.
During the conference, a variety of sports panels commence, and a number of speakers address the crowd on an assortment of sports-related topics, including sports evolution, bookmaking and media rights.
Over the years, the resume of speakers that the event attracts has continued to grow. Among those speaking at this year's event are NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, ESPN columnist Bill Simmons, NBA deputy commissioner and COO Adam Silver, Boston Red Sox senior baseball operations advisor Bill James, Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke, Cleveland Indians president Mark Shapiro and agent Scott Boras.
