SARASOTA, Fla. — Bobby Jenks is in trouble with the law.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the Red Sox reliever was arrested early Friday morning and charged with one count of driving under the influence, three counts of driving under the influence and damaging property and one count of fleeing the scene after damaging property.

The office's official report says Deputy Marsha Sutphin pulled over the 31-year-old in a white Mercedes Benz SUV near the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and U.S. 41 in Fort Myers. Jenks was arrested at 12:24 a.m. and posted $4,250 bail for his release at 8:45 a.m.

"I haven't really learned about it, you guys must know a lot more about it than I do," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "I got a little text — about 10 minutes ago."

The Red Sox placed the pitcher on the 60-day disabled list back in February. Jenks is currently recovering from two spinal surgeries he underwent during the offseason.

During the team's game against the Orioles, the Red Sox issued a statement on the matter.

“We have been made aware of a situation regarding Bobby Jenks and take such matters seriously," it said. "We are gathering information and will refrain from further comment at this time.”

Jenks is slated to continue his rehabilitation from the procedures –– one of which was botched and could've been fatal –– at JetBlue Park until June. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 9.
