The start of the 2012 MLB season will not be without another major addition to Fenway Park.

The Boston Red Sox announced Monday that the Royal Rooters Club, home of the “Nation’s Archives,” will be added and unveiled at the start of the season to serve primarily as a gathering place for season ticket holders.

“We are creating the Royal Rooters Club to fulfill a promise we made to our season ticket holders, while also finding a home for some of the precious artifacts that will now be on display as well as enjoyed by our fans as part of an enhanced tour program,” Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino said in a press release. “Our season ticket holders have long requested a dedicated space where they could gather with friends, family or clients before, during or after games.”

Lucchino added that the club will feature historic Red Sox memorabilia at the request of Red Sox fans, such as Dave Roberts‘ stolen base from the 2004 ALCS and the baseball from Roger Clemens‘ 20-strikeout game against the Seattle Mariners in April 1986.

In addition, the Royal Rooters Club will occasionally be open to the public and can be rented out for private events.

The venue is named after the Royal Rooters, a Red Sox fan club in the early 1900s, and was added as part of Fenway Park’s 100-year anniversary celebration. It will be located above the Big Concourse and behind the right field grandstand, according to the release.
