Victor Anichebe Takes Tumble Into Kop, Liverpool Fans Help Him OutJamie Carragher sent Victor Anichebe into the lion’s den in the first half of Tuesday’s Mersyside derby. His shoulder charge sent the Everton striker crashing into an advertising board, and falling into the Kop — the spiritual home of some of Liverpool’s most vociferous fans.

But something unexpected happened when Anichebe went on his famous tumble. He wasn’t torn to pieces as some may have feared. Sure, he was jeered and mocked by a few (thousand) kop denizens. But he was also helped out of his predicament by a few good samaritans.

It was a light-hearted moment that took some tension out of the air at Anfield. The nasty spirit that takes over so many derbies (see: Newcastle-Sunderland) was largely absent from Tuesday’s contest, as Kenny Dalglish noted in his post-game comments.

“Both teams were a credit to the respective clubs with the way they conducted themselves, as were both sets of fans,” he told LiverpoolFC.tv. “The city of Liverpool wins every time these two clubs play each other. The city has got two clubs it can be proud of.”
