Bobby Valentine has named Alfredo Aceves the team’s closer while Andrew Bailey rehabs from thumb surgery.

The manager made the announcement on Wednesday, according to Jenny Dell. The announcement was made just one day before the team opens up the 2012 season in Detroit against the Tigers.

Aceves went 10-2 in 55 appearances last year (four starts) and posted a 2.61 ERA. He has four career saves (two in 2011) in 114 career games.
