'Bruins Beard-A-Thon' Encouraging Fans to Grow Their Own Playoff Beards for CharityIt’s almost playoff time, so that means it’s time to throw away those razors and start growing out the ol’ playoff beard.

The Bruins are encouraging fans to “grow one for the team” to show their support for the B’s during their playoff run and raise money for charity as the team tries to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

Fans can create their “Bruins Beard-A-Thon” profile by uploading their photos at www.beardathon.com/bruins. Fans can also update their growth throughout the playoffs or, if they’re not the beard-growing type, can grow a beard virtually through the magic of computers.

Beard growers can pledge themselves by making donations, and their friends and family can also lend support by donating on the website. Throughout the playoffs, participants who raise the most money will have the opportunity to win playoff tickets, and a grand prize will be awarded to the top overall fundraiser.

The Bruins edition of the “Beard-A-Thon” was the NHL’s top fundraiser during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs and has raised over $160,000 in its four-year run.
