Will Blue Jays Finish Higher Than Red Sox, Yankees or Rays in AL East This Year? The Blue Jays are a trendy “sleeper” pick this year and were picked by some experts during the offseason as the team that could benefit most from the extra wild card berth being awarded this season.

Playing in the AL East is never an easy assignment, as the Blue Jays have shown with four straight fourth-place finishes despite a respectable .504 winning percentage during that period.

It’s just difficult going up against the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays a combined 57 times every year.

The team’s young core of Brett Lawrie and J.P. Arencibia complement established slugger Jose Bautista in the lineup. Meanwhile, ace-in-the-making Brandon Morrow anchors a potentially frisky rotation

The Jays gave the Red Sox all that they could handle on Monday night before Sergio Santos coughed up a ninth-inning lead, and the Sox may feel like they stole the game against their division rival.

Under the watchful eye of manager (and former Red Sox pitching coach) John Farrell, the Jays have higher expectations this season than they have had in quite some time. Only expectations don’t win baseball games — players do. And whether the Blue Jays have the right ones to make some noise in the East remains to be seen.
